From here you can view another true cedar growing in Cedar Court across the road. This magnificent tree is the Cedar of Lebanon (Cedrus libani). The greatest natural woods of this cedar may be found surviving in the Taurus Mountains of south east Turkey. John Evelyn did his best to encourage this species to be grown in the great gardens and parks in UK during the latter part of the 17th century. It is a tree which requires a lot of open space, such as the lawns of park land.
