The Deben Seal
This is the home of the bee cafe sited outside the Deben Seal (Ego) Hostelry, situated in the Maidensgrave area of Woodbridge.
This bee cafe was the first cafe that required a highways licence as not only is it sited in a grass verge maintained by Suffolk County Council but it is adjacent to two public highways.
Consequently, a great deal of time and effort was expended by those involved to complete the necessary paperwork and obtain the coveted permissions.
Success with this venture allowed the Melton Bee Cafes to proceed in a timely manner.
Current Status of The Deben Seal
The Deben Seal, located outside the Ego Hostelry in Woodbridge’s Maidensgrave area, continues to thrive as a unique bee cafe. With a water level of 21.60 and a temperature of 22.33°C, the environment appears to be well-suited for the bees. The conductivity reading of 308 indicates a healthy level of nutrients in the water, supporting the overall health of the bee cafe.
Recent Activity
The last recorded activity took place on April 22, 2026, when watering was conducted, suggesting ongoing care and maintenance of the cafe. Over the past six months, there has been a consistent focus on ensuring the bees’ habitat remains optimal, with a total of 13 posts reflecting community engagement and support.
Observations
The successful establishment of The Deben Seal as the first bee cafe to obtain a highways licence has paved the way for future ventures in the Melton Bee Cafes initiative. With one collaborator and one follower, the cafe is fostering a small but dedicated community, highlighting the importance of local efforts in promoting bee conservation.
